Cochin SEZ is a Special Economic Zone in Cochin, Kerala, set up for export- oriented ventures. It can be considered as a foreign territory within India with special rules for facilitating foreign direct investment. The Zone is run directly by the Government of India.
Special Customs Unit is deployed exclusively for CSEZ. All customs procedure and documentation are done in the Zone itself. The Customs MIS (Management Information System) software is a LAN based software package that was created to manage all the customs based operations carried out in CSEZ.
There are a variety of processes carried out in the customs section of CSEZ from data management to report generation. The customs related data involved capturing details of the bills files by the Units under CSEZ such as Shipping Bills, Bills of Entries, etc. The reports generated were also directly validated and entered by the various staff of CSEZ. Both of this process consumed a lot of time, lacked precision and mental strain for the staff.
The Customs MIS software we created covered the filing process of bills, generation of registers and reports generation based on the data. The administrator allots permission to various staffs for accessing various sections of the software (that also supported zonal based operations). Unlike the conventional entry method, the software provided data entry forms for various sections with inbuilt validations, thereby facilitating fast and precise management of customs data. The data collected
from various forms were used for automatic generation of a wide variety of reports with wellequipped search section (for extracting the required data), supported with print facility, thereby reducing the strenuous efforts of the staff, who created all these reports and registers manually.
By implementing this software the efficiency of the section is increased by 40 %. |
